Lynne Stewart operates a custom sewing workroom that blends fine home décor craftsmanship with imaginative soft-sculpture creations. She balances her days between client commissions—cushions, pillows, and window treatments—and a line of fabric sculptures crafted from upcycled materials.
Lynne’s biggest challenge has been learning to balance the creative side of her work with the demands of running a business. When a friend recommended reaching out to Maine SBDC, Lynne connected with Business Advisor Anne Lancaster. The timing was ideal, as Lynne was seeking to grow her wholesale presence and refine her business image.
With Anne’s guidance, Lynne successfully secured a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), which enabled her to invest in professional photography, launch a website, and participate in the New England Made (NEM) show. She’ll return as a vendor at the NEM show and is already planning to increase wholesale operations in 2026. Lynne was also recently accepted into the Maine Made program, a milestone that affirms her craftsmanship and dedication.
“Anne is very knowledgeable and has gone above what my expectations were,” Lynne comments.
