Melissa Carr has always been willing to take on a challenge. After starting her own business, Dot’s in Lincolnville, and running it successfully for 8 years, she decided she wanted to take on a bigger challenge. She decided to purchase Aurora Provisions in Portland.
Aurora Provisions is a highly regarded and popular spot in Portland’s West End. For over 15 years they have offered specialty food products, wine and beer, and takeaway prepared foods and desserts from their market and café. They are also one of Maine’s finest and most experienced caterers, offering catering and event planning for weddings, parties and gatherings of all kinds.
Melissa worked with Steve Lovejoy at the Maine Small Business Development Center at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. Steve assisted her to prepare a business plan and accompanying financials in order to secure financing. With Steve’s help Melissa was able to obtain funding to purchase the real estate and business from the prior owner.
As with any new venture, Melissa has found new challenges, and new opportunities. Bringing her own ideas, and her outgoing personality to Aurora has meant changes that have kept existing customers engaged as well as brought in new customers to expand the business.
